Welcome to Bone to Sew
Every October, our community gathers for Bone to Sew, a month-long lingerie sewing challenge dedicated to creativity, experimentation, and a little bit of Halloween magic. The name Bone to Sew is a playful twist on the phrase Born to Sew. October holds a special place for us—it marks the anniversary of The Lingerie Formula (October 2nd), the arrival of our favourite season (fall) and our favourite celebration: Halloween. Bone to Sew was created to celebrate all three. For the entire month of October makers are invited to step outside their usual projects and create at least one seasonal-inspired lingerie garment. The goal is simple: try something new, experiment with themes, colours, or materials you might not normally use, and enjoy the creative spirit of the season.
How to Participate
1. Create a lingerie garment
Your project must be a finished lingerie piece. You may draft your own design or use any existing lingerie pattern and adapt it however you wish. This can include bra’s, bralettes, panty’s, slips, pyjamas, etc.
2. Make it spooky or fall-inspired
Your design should reflect the spirit of the season: Halloween, autumn, fantasy, or costume-inspired themes are all welcome. Think textures, colours, trims, prints, silhouettes, and creative details.
3. Share your project
Post your finished piece on Instagram and tag:@thelingerieformula #bonetosew
That’s it. Once your project is shared with the hashtag, you are officially part of the challenge!
Weekly Inspiration
Throughout October, we release new lingerie designs each week to spark ideas and celebrate the incredible work being created by our community. Each piece shows a different way a lingerie pattern can be adapted for a Halloween or fall theme through fabric choice, trims, colour, or embellishment, encouraging participants to experiment with their own interpretations.
Bone to Sew has become a favourite tradition because it gives makers permission to try something they might not normally sew and explore a more playful side of lingerie design during the challenge.
Prizes, Giveaways, and Sponsorships
Bone to Sew has grown into a community event supported by a number of generous industry sponsors. Each year, these partners contribute prizes that help make the challenge even more exciting for participants. Every participant who posts a project using #bonetosew is automatically entered into the Grand Prize Giveaway, a $100 gift certificate to The Lingerie Formula. The more projects you share, the more chances you have to win. Participants who share the challenge announcement or inspiration posts in their stories may also receive special promotional codes valid for the entire month.
In addition to the grand prize, our industry sponsors contribute additional giveaways throughout the month. These may include lingerie patterns, fabric and lace, sewing supplies, gift cards, exclusive discount codes and special sponsor prizes. Participants who sew using a sponsor’s pattern may also receive additional bonus entries for those specific prizes. All winners are randomly selected, ensuring that everyone from beginners to experienced makers, have an equal chance to win. Winners are announced at the beginning of November once the challenge concludes.
